Menstrual Hygiene Policy for School-Going Girls

The National Menstrual Hygiene Policy for School-Going Girls, approved by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, in November 2024, aims to ensure that every school-going girl has access to safe, affordable, and dignified menstrual hygiene management. The Policy provides a comprehensive framework for improving awareness on menstrual health, promoting access to quality menstrual hygiene products, strengthening gender-responsive sanitation facilities in schools, and ensuring environmentally safe disposal mechanisms. It emphasizes convergence among key Ministries and Departments, including Health, Education, Women & Child Development, Jal Shakti, Pharmaceuticals, and Environment, to create an enabling ecosystem for menstrual health and well-being. The Policy also focuses on reducing stigma and misinformation through age-appropriate education, community engagement, and capacity building of teachers, frontline workers, and stakeholders, thereby supporting the health, dignity, education, and empowerment of adolescent girls across the country.
